Metformin versus insulin therapy for gestational diabetes: Effects on offspring anthropometrics and metabolism at the age of 9 years: A follow-up study of two open-label, randomized controlled trials

Aims
To compare anthropometrics, and lipid and glucose metabolism in the 9-year-old offspring of mothers treated with metformin or insulin for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).

Materials and Methods
This ...
Maternal pre-pregnancy BMI associates with neonate local and distal functional connectivity of the left superior frontal gyrus
Maternal obesity/overweight during pregnancy has reached epidemic proportions and has been linked with adverse outcomes for the offspring, including cognitive impairment and increased risk for neuropsychiatric disorders. ...
Synnynnäisiä aineenvaihduntatauteja on seulottu Suomessa jo lähes neljännesmiljoonalta vauvalta

Synnynnäisiä aineenvaihduntasairauksia on seulottu Suomessa vuodesta 2015. Seulonta tehdään hiussuoniverinäytteestä, joka otetaan kantapään ihopistolla 2–5 päivän iässä. Noin yhdeltä lapselta viidestätuhannesta löydetään ...
Analgesic antipyretic use among young children in the TEDDY study: no association with islet autoimmunity
Background: The use of analgesic antipyretics (ANAP) in children have long been a matter of controversy. Data on their practical use on an individual level has, however, been scarce. There are indications of possible effects ...
Imputing Longitudinal Growth Data in International Pediatric Studies: Does CDC Reference Suffice?
This study investigates a missing value imputation approach for longitudinal growth data in pediatric studies from multiple countries. We analyzed a combined cohort from five natural history studies of type 1 diabetes (T1D) ...
Placenta is Capable of Protecting the Male Fetus from Exposure to Environmental Bisphenol A
Embryo-fetal exposure to bisphenol A (BPA) could be related to poor male reproductive parameters in rodents, but this concept has not been convincingly confirmed in humans. We investigated the association of environmental ...
MYC is not detected in highly proliferating normal spermatogonia but is coupled with CIP2A in testicular cancers

High MYC expression is linked to proliferative activity in most normal
tissues and in cancer. MYC also supports self-renewal and proliferation
of many types of tissue progenitor cells. Cancerous inhibitor of PP2A
(CIP2A) promotes MYC phosphorylation and activity during intestinal
crypt regeneration in vivo and in various cancers. CIP2A also supports male germ cell proliferation in vivo.
However, the role of MYC in normal germ cell proliferation and
spermatogonial progenitor self-renewal is currently unclear. Here, we
demonstrate that male germ cells are CIP2A-positive but lack detectable
levels of MYC protein; whereas MYC is highly expressed in Leydig cells
and peritubular myoid cells contributing thereby to the testicular stem
cell niche. On the other hand, MYC was co-expressed with CIP2A in
testicular cancers. These results demonstrate that CIP2A and MYC are
spatially uncoupled in the regulation of spermatogenesis, but functional
relationship between these two human oncoproteins is established during
testicular cancer transformation. We propose that further analysis of
mechanisms of MYC silencing in spermatogonial progenitors may reveal
novel fundamental information relevant to understanding of MYC
expression in cancer.

...
Long-Lasting T Cell Responses in BNT162b2 COVID-19 mRNA Vaccinees and COVID-19 Convalescent Patients

The emergence of novel variants of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has made it more difficult to prevent the virus from spreading despite available vaccines. Reports of breakthrough ...
TLR4Polymorphism, Nasopharyngeal Bacterial Colonization, and the Development of Childhood Asthma: A Prospective Birth-Cohort Study in Finnish Children
We aimed to explore the role of TLR4 (rs4986790) polymorphism in the nasopharyngeal (NP) bacterial colonization and its consequent impact on the development of childhood asthma. A semi-quantitative culture of NP swabs was ...
Low-saturated-fat and low-cholesterol diet does not alter pubertal development and hormonal status in adolescents

Aim
The aim was to assess the influence of dietary counselling on the pubertal development and hormonal status in healthy adolescents.

Methods
We used a subcohort of 193 healthy boys (52%) and ...
