68Ga-DOTA chelate, a novel imaging agent for assessment of myocardial perfusion and infarction detection in a rodent model
<p>Background<br />Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with Gadolinium 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-N′,N″,N′′′,N″″-tetraacetic acid (Gd-DOTA) enables assessment of myocardial perfusion during first-pass of the contrast ...
Effects of hormonal contraception on systemic metabolism: cross-sectional and longitudinal evidence
<h4>BACKGROUND:</h4><p>Hormonal contraception is commonly used worldwide, but its systemic effects across lipoprotein subclasses, fatty acids, circulating metabolites and cytokines remain poorly understood.</p><h4>METHOD ...
Circulating inflammatory cytokines and risk of five cancers: a Mendelian randomization analysis
<p><strong>Background: </strong>Epidemiological and experimental evidence has linked chronic inflammation to cancer aetiology. It is unclear whether associations for specific inflammatory biomarkers are causal or due to ...
Genome-wide association study of circulating interleukin 6 levels identifies novel loci
<p>Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is a multifunctional cytokine with both pro- and anti-inflammatory properties with a heritability estimate of up to 61%. The circulating levels of IL-6 in blood have been associated with an increased risk of complex disease pathogenesis. We conducted a two-staged, discovery and replication meta genome-wide association study (GWAS) of circulating serum IL-6 levels comprising up to 67428 (ndiscovery=52654 and nreplication=14774) individuals of European ancestry. The inverse variance fixed effects based discovery meta-analysis, followed by replication led to the identification of two independent loci, IL1F10/IL1RN rs6734238 on chromosome (Chr) 2q14, (Pcombined=1.8x10-11), HLA-DRB1/DRB5 rs660895 on Chr6p21 (Pcombined=1.5x10-10) in the combined meta-analyses of all samples. We also replicated the IL6R rs4537545 locus on Chr1q21 (Pcombined=1.2x10-122). Our study identifies novel loci for circulating IL-6 levels uncovering new immunological and inflammatory pathways that may influence IL-6 pathobiology.</p>...
Patterning of educational attainment across inflammatory markers: Findings from a multi-cohort study
Background: Evidence suggests that the inflammatory reaction, an adaptive response triggered by a variety of harmful stimuli and conditions involved in the risk and development of many chronic diseases, is a potential ...
The Role of Inflammatory Cytokines as Intermediates in the Pathway from Increased Adiposity to Disease
<p>Objective <br></p><p>This study aimed to investigate the role of cytokines as intermediates in the pathway from increased adiposity to disease.<br></p><p>Methods <br></p><p>BMI and circulating levels of up to 41 cytokines ...
Genome-wide association study identifies seven novel loci associating with circulating cytokines and cell adhesion molecules in Finns
<p>Background: Inflammatory processes contribute to the pathophysiology of multiple chronic conditions. Genetic factors play a crucial role in modulating the inflammatory load, but the exact mechanisms are incompletely ...
Two weeks of moderate-intensity continuous training, but not high-intensity interval training, increases insulin-stimulated intestinal glucose uptake
<p>Similar to muscles, the intestine is also insulin resistant in obese subjects and subjects with impaired glucose tolerance. Exercise training improves muscle insulin sensitivity, but its effects on intestinal metabolism ...
Metabolic profiling of pregnancy: cross-sectional and longitudinal evidence
<div><h3>Background</h3><p>Pregnancy triggers well-known alterations in maternal glucose and lipid balance but its overall effects on systemic metabolism remain incompletely understood.</p></div><div><h3>Methods</h3><p>Detailed ...
