| dc.description.abstract | This literature review explores the link between Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) approach and the cultivation of critical thinking. Rooted in the demands of 21st-century learning and facilitated by frameworks, such as project-based learning, the literature indicates that STEAM enhances creativity, collaboration, and reflective thinking by tying academic material to real-world experiences. Integrating the arts into STEM not only deepens understanding but also prompts learners to question, investigate, and problem-solve across subject areas. Studies demonstrate that STEAM develops higher-level thinking, enhances student engagement, and develops key soft skills from early education to advanced levels. While the advantages are certain, there are some challenges that need to be addressed—such as teacher training needs. Nevertheless, if done so successfully, STEAM presents an inclusive and dynamic environment for developing critical thinking and preparing learners to tackle sophisticated real-world problems. The literature considered in this paper lends to research questions regarding how STEAM could better be used to assist in balanced critical thinking cultivation across educational environments. | |
