The healthcare industry has been slow to embrace digital transformation compared to other sectors, despite the potential benefits. While various advanced technologies are utilized in medicine, their adoption lacks systematic and comprehensive integration. This lag inhibits the healthcare sector from fully leveraging digital innovations to improve access to quality care across the disease continuum. This paper reviews relevant literature through a scoping design to highlight the evolving landscape of digital transformation in healthcare. As new technologies continually emerge, digital transformation will increasingly shape the future of healthcare, promising enhanced accessibility, equity, safety, and quality of care. However, the complexity of this transformation presents numerous challenges. Key challenges include ensuring the effectiveness of technology, maintaining service quality, and mitigating risks such as cyberattacks. Poor governance of digital transformation exacerbates these challenges, necessitating action at local, district, provincial, and national levels. Addressing these challenges comprehensively within the healthcare industry's realities is essential for fostering optimal digital transformation. In conclusion, while digital transformation in healthcare is gaining attention, its implementation remains intricate. By systematically addressing governance issues and other challenges, the healthcare industry can create an environment conducive to successful digital transformation, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes.
