Discusses nine fiction films which received funding from the Finnish government's "Suomi 100"-grants (of which film was but one field). 

The films were otherwise independent from one another, and vary in genre and narrative mode. However, three major themes were common: history of Finland's 100 years of independence; the Finnish nature; a call for Finland to embrace minorities and other cultures.
