Tiivistelmä
Additive manufacturing (AM) has created a new opportunity to fabricate advanced thermal systems, such as heat exchangers (HX) with complex geometries. Unlike in traditional methods, powder bed fusion (PBF) process enables layer by layer manufacturing and permits the utilization of topologyoptimized designs and lattice structures. These novel designs and structures such as triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) enhance heat transfer performance while reducing weight, overall HX size and material usage. This literature review examines key performance metrics, additive manufacturing methods and advanced geometries of AM HXs. In addition, the performance, size and weight reduction of AM HXs, and the trade-off between pressure drop and heat transfer are discussed and compared with traditional HXs. A key finding is that AM HXs can offer high thermal power density, but at the same time introduce higher pressure drops and require more pumping power.
