Kaareutuvien De Geer -moreenien morfologia Pohjanmaalla ja Etelä-Pohjanmaalla : Tarkastelussa Laihia-Isokyrön ja Vöyrin De Geer -kentät

Abstract

De Geer -moreenit ovat jäätikkösyntyisiä maaperämuodostumia, jotka syntyvät subglasiaalisissa olosuhteissa. Vaasan seudun De Geer -moreenit ovat poikkeuksellisen kaareutuvia, eikä saman-laisia kaareutuvia muodostumia ole aiemmin tutkittu. Tutkin Laihia-Isokyrön ja Vöyrin De Geer -kenttien morfologiaa ja vertailen kenttiä keskenään. Harjanneviivojen digitoinnin avulla selvitin selänteiden pituudet ja etäisyydet toisistaan. Otoskohtina mittasin muodostumien korkeudet ja leveydet, sekä tarkastelin symmetrisyyttä. Aineistona hyödynsin Geologian tutkimuskeskuksen (GTK) jäätikkösyntyiset maaperämuodostumat -aineistoa sekä korkeusmallia. Tulosten mukaan kenttien morfologia eroaa jonkin verran toisistaan. Vöyrin kentällä otoskohdat ovat keskiarvol-taan korkeammat kuin Laihia-Isokyrön kentällä. Lisäksi eroa on myös selänteiden pituuksissa ja symmetrisyydessä. Molemmat kentät jakautuvat selvästi osiin, joissa selänteet ovat asettuneet eri suuntiin tai poikkeavat jollain tavalla muista osioista. Vöyrin kentän osa kolme on poikkeuk-sellisin kentällä ja ehdotan tulosten ja kirjallisuuden pohjalta, että muodostumat ovat railoihin puristuneita CSR-muodostumia. Molemmilla kentillä selänteiden morfologia viittaa railoissa syn-tyneisiin muodostumiin. Jäätikkö on todennäköisesti käyttäytynyt poikkeuksellisesti tutkimusalu-eellani, ja railojen muodostuminen ja jään lohkeaminen on tapahtunut pohjautumisvyöhykkeellä.

De Geer moraines are glacial landforms formed in subglacial conditions. De Geer moraines in the Vaasa region are exceptionally curved, and similar landforms have not been studied previously. I studied the morphology of the De Geer fields in Laihia-Isokyrö and Vöyri and compared the fields with one another. By digitizing crestlines for the ridges, I determined the lengths of the ridges and their interdistances. At specific sample points, I measured the heights and widths of the land-forms and examined their symmetry. The datasets utilized in this study include the Geological Survey of Finland’s (GTK) glacial features dataset and a digital elevation model (DEM). Based on my results, the morphology of the fields differs to some extent. On average, the sample points in the Vöyri field are higher than those in the Laihia-Isokyrö field. Furthermore, differences also exist in the lengths and symmetry of the ridges. Both fields are clearly divided into sections where the ridges are oriented in different directions or otherwise deviate from the other sections. Section three of the Vöyri field is the most exceptional within the field, and based on the results and litera-ture, I suggest that these landforms are crevasse squeeze ridges (CSRs). In both fields, the mor-phology of the ridges indicates that they formed within crevasses. The gla-cier has likely behaved exceptionally within my study area, with crevasse formation and calving taking place at the grounding zone.
