Verga e la Finlandia

Riassunto tematico

la cultura finlandese sin dagli anni ’90 dell’Ottocento mostra una forte attenzione a Verga, con la traduzione di novelle e la presenza del dramma Cavalleria rusticana sulle scene. il saggio presenta la ricezione delle opere di Giovanni Verga attraverso l’analisi di traduzioni, recensioni, note biobibliografiche tra il 1892 e gli anni ’50 del Novecento, quando l’attenzione di critici, traduttori ed editori si sposta verso altri autori, anche se l’influsso verista si coglie ancora negli sviluppi artistici dell’opera finlandese, in particolare ne Gli Ostrobotnici (Järviluoma - Madetoja). 

The attention of the Finnish culture to Giovanni Verga’s works is particularly intense in the early 1890s, as appears both in the translation of short stories and in the presence of the drama «Cavalleria rusticana» on Finnish scenes. We analyze the reception of the works of Giovanni Verga, through the analysis of translations, reviews, bio-bibliographic notes that appeared from 1892 until the 1950s: then translators and editors moved towards other authors, while the influence of Verism still remains in the artistic developments of the Finnish opera, in particular in «The Ostrobothnians» (Järviluoma - Madetoja).
