dc.description.abstractEvery year the amount of the hub airports in the world grows significantly. This makes it crucial to study the airport developments’ trends and try to predict the formation of the new hubs. This research dives into the question of air transportation in the Baltic sea region with focus on Saint-Petersburg and Kaliningrad airports and aims to answer the question: “How does the competitive environment of hub airports in the Baltic Sea region impact St.Petersburg and Kaliningrad airports?” Author aims to identify the competitive environment of the area and the research seeks to discover temporal and spatial trends in the development of the regional air transport system using the example of functioning hub airports of the Baltic Sea region. The research comes to a conclusion that the competitive environment and current trends allow for Saint-Petersburg airport to become an international hub in the near future. However, developing of Kaliningrad airport in the same direction is unlikely, as competition from surrounding European countries is too strong.
