Mitä on muotoilukasvatus muotoilupainotteisessa peruskoulussa?

Abstract

<p>Muotoilutaidot ovat yhteiskunnassa tarvittavia taitoja, joiden opettamiseen tulisi<br />kiinnittää huomiota jo perusopetuksessa. Helsinkiläisessä Arabian peruskoulussa<br />vastataan tähän tarpeeseen aloittamalla muotoilupainotteinen opetus syksyllä<br />2016. Tässä artikkelissa vastataan kyseisen koulun näkökulmasta kysymykseen;<br />Mitä muotoilukasvatuksella tarkoitetaan ja tavoitellaan muotoilupainotteisessa<br />peruskoulussa? Aineistona on käytetty koulun rehtorin teemahaastattelua, joka<br />on analysoitu teoriaohjaavalla sisällönanalyysillä. Analyysin perusteella Arabian<br />peruskoulussa muotoilukasvatus nähdään yhteiskunnassa tarvittavien luovuuden<br />ja ajattelun taitojen opettamisen välineenä sekä opetuksen ja oppimisen<br />uudistamisen keinona. Muotoilukasvatus nähdään myös erityisesti käsityön ja<br />kuvataiteen sisältöalueena. Artikkeli tuottaa muotoilukasvatuksen alalle uutta<br />tietoa muotoilukasvatuksen määritelmän muodossa ja tuloksia voidaan käyttää<br />apuna koulun muotoilupainotuksen kehittämisessä.<br /></p><p>Avainsanat<br />muotoilutaidot, muotoilukasvatus, muotoilupainotteinen peruskoulu</p><p><br /></p><p>Abstract<br /></p><p>Design skills are essential in the 21st century, and design education should be part of<br />comprehensive school curricula. Therefore, this article focuses on the following research<br />questions: What is design education, and what are its aims in comprehensive<br />schools specializing in design education? Helsinki-based Arabia Comprehensive<br />School will include design education as part of its curriculum beginning in the autumn<br />semester of 2016, and the data for this article were collected through a semistructured<br />interview with the school’s principal. The data were analysed using content<br />analysis, revealing that at Arabia Comprehensive School, the purpose of design<br />education is to teach creativity and thinking skills and to reform teaching and learning.<br />At this school, design education is particularly focused on crafts and visual arts,<br />but the school will also integrate it into subject-specific syllabi. The results of this<br />research provide insights into the field of design education in a comprehensive<br />school context, and the results can be used to develop design education at Arabia<br />Comprehensive School and other schools interested in adding design education to<br />their curriculum.</p><p>Keywords<br />design skills, design education, design-specializing comprehensive school<br /></p><p><br /></p>
